Grow to Go

Dear Church Family,
FBC has always been a sending church. It’s in our DNA. Davis is a community with a lot of turnover…. And it has shaped how we think of ourselves as a church. We might only get a few years with people, but we want those to be vital years of growth. Think of First Baptist Church of Davis as a greenhouse: a place where seedlings are nourished to strength, and where already-fruitful plants are pruned and propagated.
It is this “grow to go” mindset that has fueled FBC’s heart to support children’s ministry, youth ministry, and College Life at UC Davis. It’s why we celebrate Senior Sunday as a commissioning into whatever God has next for our students. It’s what lies behind our Neighboring and BLESS initiatives of wanting to grow us so we’ll be fruitful where we live and work. It’s why FBC has sent out over 100 missionaries since we were established in 1947. And that’s not counting the thousands of people who’ve left the city of Davis deeply rooted in their faith because of their time at FBC and now being fruitful as they raise families, pioneer in jobs, and serve their communities in everyday-miraculous ways.
This September, we’re remembering our roots and fertilizing our imaginations for God’s call on each of us in His Great Growing Project. We have several of our Global Outreach workers coming back to preach, bless, and encourage us every Sunday in September for our “Grow to Go” series. We’re making scholarships available for 18-27 year olds to go to the Urbana conference in December. We’re planning for a team of Lighthouse students and adults to serve in Mexico in Spring 2026. We’re gearing up to pray.
We’re wanting every person at FBC to finish September with a clearer sense of how we as a church—and you in particular—are called to God’s mission in the world.
Excited to grow and go together,
Pastor Bronwyn
