our values

kingdom-minded

We value joining God in seeing his kingdom come. We believe God’s aim in Jesus and through the Spirit is to redeem and renew people and the world that will be completed when Christ appears again. So we are concerned and mindful about God’s work in our corner and in his greater kingdom in this world, and sending people in ministry here, near and far.

value-relational.png

relational

We value relational connections with one another as essential for human thriving as well as spiritual transformation. We count relationships as central environments and vehicles for ministry to be done and for transformation to happen.

value-prayerful.png

prayerful

We value prayer and dependence on God because apart from him we can do nothing. We seek God in prayer to live in him and to be led by him, trusting that he will empower us, and go beyond us to surprise with what only he can do.

We value connecting faith to everyday life with God. We pursue Christ by integrating our faith with our hearts, heads and hands.

our beliefs

1 | The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, that was written by people who were divinely inspired by Him and is, therefore, the only infallible authority in matters of faith and conduct.

2 | God

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in God the Father, almighty Creator of heaven and earth, eternal in His being, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power, and ever-present. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in human affairs, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He gives eternal life to all who come to Him through His Son Jesus Christ.

3 | Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal and only Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, of virgin birth, sinless in His life, making atonement for the sins of the world by His death. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven to the right hand of God the Father, and His imminent, personal, and visible return to the world according to His promise.

4 | The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. In His ministry the Holy Spirit regenerates, indwells, sanctifies, teaches, empowers for service, and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that spiritual baptism occurs at conversion, resulting in union with Christ and placement into His body.

5 | Salvation

We believe that all people by nature and by choice are sinners, but that "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." We believe in the resurrection of the dead and that those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior will rejoice forever in God's presence and those who refuse to accept Christ as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God. We believe that every human being is ultimately responsible to God alone in matters of faith.

6 | The Church

We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and of which all regenerated people are members. We also believe in a multitude of local churches, each a company of believers in Jesus Christ associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that to these churches were committed the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper, and the task of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world. We believe that each church should be autonomous and free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority. Nevertheless, we support cooperation with other persons and groups in programs that promote the work of God's universal church.

7 | Christian Service

We believe that Christians are to follow the Savior's example in ministering to human physical needs. Such acts of love, when done in the name of Jesus, bring glory to God.

Discover Faith, Grow in Love, Live out Hope

From Sunday worship, to regular weekly meetings, to special events and retreats, your will often hear us talking about: Faith, Love, and Hope. So what do these three words mean to us at First Baptist Church of Davis?

We want everyone to Discover Faith

Simply put, faith means to trust and believe. We want to help one another discover that Jesus is worth trusting and believing, from the first time we believe and through every season and aspect of life. Jesus’ life, teaching, death, and resurrection are the sturdy foundation on which our faith stands. Our Christian faith, then, is not religious observance or agreeing with a certain set of truths. It’s trusting and believing that Jesus is God’s King and our Savior that makes a faith which pleases God (Hebrews 11:6, John 6:29).

We strive to Grow in Love

Jesus says the greatest measure of spirituality is one’s love for God and others (Matthew 22:36-40). It’s the kind of love God has extended to us in Jesus: an unconditional love marked by devotion and sacrificial action that goes beyond a warm and positive feeling. Once we receive and experience God’s kind of love, we are moved to replicate it and practice it until it becomes second nature in increasing measures. We love God and our neighbor in everyday, practical ways as a response to the love God first showed us.

We desire to Live out Hope

We believe there’s more life than this life: Jesus promised abundant life (John 10:10) and eternal life (John 3:16) to all who have faith in Him. What’s more: He’s promised to wrap all things in this world into a new heaven and new earth, one without pain or evil. Our lives here and now look forward to that ultimate reality, and much like an engaged couple look forward to being married and arrange their lives with that new relationship status and its priorities in sight: as a church we want to live lives rich in love, justice, and mercy as tastes of the future to come with God.

Learn more about FBC

As you can see, FBC is a bible church and we look forward to meeting you in person at one of our Sunday worship services, or at an upcoming special event. We know there is a wide diversity of bible based churches and great Christian churches in Davis and near UC Davis, and we are honored that you would spend time with us. We are a Baptist congregation (it's right in our name of First Baptist Church of Davis), but if you have worshiped before at a Protestant Church or an Evangelical Church, we think you will right at home with us.

Please contact us if you have any questions about our belief system, any specific beliefs or values, want to meet with individual pastors, or where we as a bible-based church body fit into different Christian denominations, non-denominational churches, Protestant churches, Evangelical churches, Anglican churches, and the overall Christian unity of the church. See you this coming Sunday morning.
