Home Groups
To find out more about home groups, to join an existing home group, or to start a new home group in your neighborhood, contact Scott Wieking.
Home Groups are both formal and informal.
Each home group possesses a formal and informal quality to it. One the one hand, home groups meet regularly for worship, learning, and encouragement. At the same time, there are many interactions that take place outside regular group meetings. BBQs, birthday parties, and conversations over coffee are just some of the informal happenings of a home group.
Home Groups are formed within neighborhoods.
Today the rediscovery of neighborhoods is a cultural opportunity for developing community. That is why many of our home groups at FBC are geographically or neighborhood-based. Being in community with those who live near us provides for greater spontaneity, more frequent interaction and an opportunity to impact our neighborhoods together.
Home Groups are intergenerational.
Another distinguishing mark of FBC's home groups are their intergenerational flavor. Many of our home groups involve people of all ages. The resulting diversity can be a powerful avenue for experiencing the unity of the body of Christ. Some of our home groups involve both adults and children. In those groups, children learn from watching adults grow in their faith and adults benefit from the authentic way kids approach life and faith.
Home Groups have five purposes.
Home groups are built around the same five foundational purposes that FBC has:
- Worship | In home group community we worship God for who he is and what he has done. Worship encompasses all that we do. Prayer, praise, and thanksgiving are specific activities of worship that center us around Christ, who forms us into his loving community.
- Fellowship | In home group community we experience life together by spending time with one another, enjoying life's many blessings, and caring for one another in practical ways.
- Discipleship | In home group community we seek to become hearers and doers of God's word by encouraging one another in our relationships with Christ. Our aim is not simply to learn about the Christian life together but to do the Christian life together.
- Ministry | In home group community we purpose to make a difference in our local church by serving together.
- Evangelism | In home group community we strive to spread the good news of Christ in three primary ways:
- International Missions | We express our concern for the world by caring for and supporting FBC missionaries and other Great Commission endeavors around the world.
- Communitiy Service | We purpose to make a positive impact in the neighborhoods and cities in which we live by identifying social needs and participating in efforts of compassion.
- Relational Evangelism | We commit ourselves to reaching out with the good news and caring for those who have not yet come to know Christ.
